About this piece

The tray is a thick clear plate with a regular grid of round holes. Along one side the sheet turns up into a raised back edge, with an engraved arrow on it that points towards the grid. Small engraved marks sit beside the first hole of each row, and the cut walls of the holes catch the light, so the grid shows even when the tray is empty.

Testers and lipsticks on a cosmetics counter, nail polish in a salon, vials in a lab, markers in a design studio: trays like this hold many small things upright, each in its own place. An empty hole is easy to spot, and the clear plate keeps the items, not the tray, in view. The raised edge at the back gives room for an engraved label or a logo.

Hole size and spacing are taken from the items the tray will hold. We cut trays like this from clear or coloured acrylic by laser cutting and engrave numbers, letters or a logo where they help. The size of the tray, the number of holes and the height of the back edge can all change, and you can order a single tray or a set for several counters.

Questions

Can the holes be numbered?

Yes. Numbers, letters or short labels can be engraved beside each hole or each row, like the small marks on this tray, so every item goes back to the same place. The engraving is part of the drawing you approve.

Can holes of different sizes go in one tray?

Yes. Each hole is cut to the item it holds, so one tray can take two or three sizes side by side. Send a sample of each item, or its exact diameter, and we lay out the grid around them.
