AI concept · made to order in Riga

Solid oak floating shelves with hidden brackets

AI concept for solid oak floating shelves with no visible support underneath, for homes, cafés, shops and tasting rooms. Our workshop in Riga builds them to order to your wall; shelf depth, bracket and wall fixing are confirmed per project against your wall type and the total load the shelves carry.

The idea images on this page are AI concepts — design ideas, not photos of finished work; final construction and scope are agreed for your project. The photo marked “Real work” is from our workshop.

Included:
The shelves made to your wall size, with brackets as confirmed per project
Optional:
Your logo engraved, a chosen edge profile, matching shelves for other walls
You supply:
Wall type, measurements and photos, and the total load per shelf

Decisions to make

Depth, thickness and total load

A deeper shelf puts more leverage on the bracket and the wall; a thicker board can hide a larger bracket and looks more solid. Depth and thickness are set per project from your wall and the total load, so list everything each shelf will carry. Stacked plates, books and wine bottles weigh far more than they look.

What the wall is made of

Brick, concrete, timber studs, plasterboard and old lime plaster each take a fixing differently. Tell us the wall type and, if you know, where pipes or cables run. If a wall is a poor base for floating shelves, we say so.

The hidden bracket

The concept shows no visible support, and the images do not show a bracket design. Brackets can be made in steel on our own floor; their type, size and fixing are confirmed per project once the wall, depth and load are known.

Suggested uses

Kitchen alcoves and living rooms

In a recess beside a chimney breast or above a worktop, the shelves are cut to the alcove's exact width and the depth your plates or books need.

Café walls behind the counter

Café shelves carry cups and jars through every shift and get wiped often; we ask what stands where and agree the finish with you.

Shops, studios and showrooms

Ceramic studios, florists and concept stores show stock at eye level on a run of shelves; one drawing can repeat across several walls or branches.

Bedsides, hallways and desks

Where floor space is tight, one shelf can replace a piece of furniture: a bedside shelf instead of a table, a hallway ledge for keys, a shelf above a desk.

Materials and options

Materials and finishes

  • Oak (as in the concept)Hard and dense, coping well with ceramics, books and daily handling; we agree a finish that suits plant pots and wiping.
  • WalnutDark and fine-grained, a strong contrast on a pale wall; long, wide boards are harder to source.
  • AshPaler than oak, with a bold grain and similar hardness, but less happy in damp spots beside a sink.
  • Other speciesMaple is also available, hard and pale; birch and black alder are softer, so they may need a thicker board for the same load. Painted shelves can match the wall.

Personalisation

Your logo engraved on the front edge of one shelf, where customers see it, or underneath for a quieter mark; a small monogram suits a home. Position is agreed on the drawing.

  2. Drawing and 3D reviewReview the design from each side on a private page.
  3. Quote and approvalPrice and scope agreed before anything is made.
  4. Prototype or productionFor a series, one prototype first; a single piece is made once approved.

The drawing shows each shelf on your wall at the agreed length, depth and thickness, with the bracket and fixing noted once they are confirmed for your wall and load.

What to send us for a quote

  • Wall material, a photo of it with a tape measure, and known pipes or cables
  • Length, depth and number of shelves, and the spacing between them
  • The total load on each shelf: everything that will stand on it, not just the heaviest item
  • Preferred wood and finish, or a photo of furniture to match
  • Your logo file and where it goes, and how many shelves or walls
  • Who will fix them to the wall: your own fitter, or discuss it with us

Questions

How much weight can a floating oak shelf hold?

There is no single figure. The wall behind matters most, then the bracket and the depth and thickness of the board. We size each shelf to the total load you list and confirm the bracket and wall fixing per project. If a shelf will hold stacked plates or wine bottles, say so in the brief.

Can you make floating shelves for a plasterboard wall?

Sometimes. Plasterboard alone is a weak base for a hidden bracket, so the fixing usually has to reach timber studs or solid wall behind it. We confirm the fixing per project, and say so if floating shelves do not suit the wall.

How deep can a floating oak shelf be?

Depth is confirmed against total load, bracket and wall. A deeper shelf puts more leverage on the hidden bracket and generally calls for a thicker board, so send the wall type and everything each shelf will carry.
