Real work from our workshop

We built a central island with open shelves and glass-front drawers for a wine boutique in Riga — storage and display in one piece.

Decisions to make

Shelf heights and depth

Send your tallest and shortest product, and what goes on each shelf. Fixed shelves are stiffer; adjustable ones let staff change the display with the season, or the top and base can be fixed with adjustable shelves between. Depth follows your boxes; thickness for the load is confirmed per project.

Drawers for stock

The two glass-front drawers hold back stock that customers can still see, so restocking does not mean a trip to the back room. We agree drawer depth and how far they open.

Moving it around

Tell us if the unit needs to move around the shop, pass through doors or go into storage, and we look at feet, castors or sections that come apart. Stability, castors, any wall fixing and how it travels are confirmed per project.

Suggested uses

Delis, farm shops and gift shops

Jars and boxed goods vary in height, and ranges change with the season. Each fixed shelf is set to the tallest item it holds; adjustable shelves let staff change the display themselves.

Wine and spirits shops

Upright bottles need taller, deeper shelves than gift boxes and weigh far more. Send us bottle heights and how many stand on a shelf; shelf thickness and supports are confirmed per project once we know the load.

Producers supplying their stockists

A chocolate, tea or coffee brand places the same unit, with its logo engraved, in each shop that sells it, after trying a prototype in a real shop.

Brand pop-ups and concessions

A producer with space in a market hall needs a unit that carries its mark and goes into storage afterwards; whether sections come apart is confirmed per project.

Materials and options

Materials and finishes

  • Oak (as in the concept)Takes boxes slid on and off all day and reads well under shop lights, though it is heavy to move.
  • AshPaler than oak and just as tough; a good background when your labels or packaging are dark.
  • WalnutDark and warm, suiting wine and chocolate, but it darkens the whole display, so test it against your packaging.
  • Other speciesBirch and maple are also available for a pale unit, black alder for a warmer one, or a painted carcass with oak shelves. Pine suits a pop-up but dents sooner.
  • Glass drawer frontsShown on both drawers in the concept. Glass shows what is inside, so drawers need keeping tidy; solid wood fronts hide the stock instead.

Personalisation

Your logo engraved on the top rail, the plinth below the drawers or the side panel facing the door. With several modules, the same mark repeats on each so the set reads as one brand. Size and position are agreed on the drawing.

From request to production

  1. Your briefTell us how you will use it, how many you need and whether you want a logo.
  2. Drawing and 3D reviewReview the design from each side on a private page.
  3. Quote and approvalPrice and scope agreed before anything is made.
  4. Prototype or productionFor a series, one prototype first; a single piece is made once approved.

From your product list and floor plan, the drawing sets the shelf heights, drawer depth and module widths. For several shops, the prototype is tried with your own stock on its shelves before the series.

Questions

Can the shelf heights on an oak shop display unit be set for our products?

Yes. Each shelf is sized to the products you send, from low jars to tall gift boxes, and some shelves can be made adjustable. Send your tallest, shortest and widest products, and roughly how heavy a full shelf is.

Can you build a shop display unit with glass-front drawers?

Yes. We agree their depth, how far they open, and glass or solid wood fronts. We built a central island with glass-front drawers for a wine boutique in Riga; it is on our interiors page.

Can you make several branded display units for our stockists or pop-ups?

Yes. For several shops, prototype first, then the series, with your logo in the same place on each. For pop-ups we can make separate modules sized for your doors; castors, stability and how they travel are confirmed per project.
