Decisions to make

Insert fit for the bottle and two glasses

The insert follows your bottle's base, shoulder and neck, and each tumbler gets its own recess so glass does not touch glass. With a sample bottle and glasses we test the prototype with them; otherwise we work from exact measurements. How the chest travels is confirmed per project.

Chest proportions

The bottle and glasses set the inside size; the outside follows, with walls thick enough for the visible corner joints. A tall bottle can stand or lie down, which changes the whole chest, so we draw it before any wood is cut.

Walnut, your logo and the brass hinges

An engraved logo reads differently on dark walnut than on pale oak or ash, so choose the wood with the logo in mind and see both on a sample. Keep or change the brass hinges, with a stay if the lid should stand open.

Suggested uses

A new release, ready to pour

A distillery presents a new release as a set ready to pour: the bottle and two of your own glasses, each in its own recess, so the first pour is shared as the chest opens.

Distillery and spirits shops

Open on the counter, the chest shows bottle and glasses together as a gift to take home. For a bottle sold all year, chests made around that one shape keep every chest on the shelf matching.

A gift for two to open together

Two glasses make this a gift for two people: a retirement send-off, or thanks to a business partner when a deal closes. Your logo engraved on the lid marks who it is from.

Materials and options

Materials and finishes

  • Walnut (as in the concept)Dark, even grain that suits a satin finish and a dark insert; an engraved logo shows with less contrast than on lighter wood.
  • OakLighter and hard-wearing, and the wood of our real oak chest. An engraved logo reads clearly, and a darker insert gives contrast.
  • AshPale with a strong grain and close to oak in strength, for a lighter brand look around amber spirits.
  • Other speciesMaple and birch are also available for a pale chest, black alder for a warm brown between oak and walnut. We check the joints, hinges and insert before quoting.

Personalisation

Your logo engraved on the lid, on the front, or inside the lid where it shows only when the chest opens. An edition number on each chest of a limited release can be discussed. Position and size are agreed on the drawing.

From request to production

  1. Your briefTell us how you will use it, how many you need and whether you want a logo.
  2. Drawing and 3D reviewReview the design from each side on a private page.
  3. Quote and approvalPrice and scope agreed before anything is made.
  4. Prototype or productionFor a series, one prototype first; a single piece is made once approved.

For this chest, the drawing settles the insert layout around your bottle and glasses. On the prototype we check that each piece lifts out cleanly, the glasses stay apart and the lid opens to the angle you want.

Questions

Can the chest be made for cognac, rum, gin or another spirit?

Yes. We cut the insert around your own bottle, from a sample or its exact sizes, so the chest is not limited to whisky. A taller or wider bottle changes the inside size, and a tall bottle may need to lie down rather than stand, which changes the chest's proportions.

Do you supply the whisky and the glasses?

No. The concept shows an unlabelled bottle and two crystal tumblers, but we make the chest and its wooden insert only. The bottle and glasses come from you or your supplier, and we cut the insert around the exact ones you choose.

Have you built a chest like this before?

Not this exact chest; the image on this page is an AI concept. Our closest real piece is the hand-built oak chest with a carved tree of life shown under Real work. The CNC router, panel saw and spray room we would use are on our production page.
