About this piece
Room 547 is cut right through a brushed gold-tone face, so the numerals read in black. The face sits inside a black backing that frames it on all four sides. Two thin lines are cut across it as well: one above the number, starting at the left edge, and one below it, running out to the right edge.
Because the number is cut out rather than added on, nothing stands off the surface, and the plate stays flat against the door or the wall beside it. That suits busy hotel corridors where trolleys and luggage pass close by. The offset lines give the plate a layout of its own, and they can carry over to the lift lobby and the floor signs so one style runs through the building.
Plates of this kind are drawn first, from your room list and your choice of typeface, and you check every plate in 3D on a private page before production. On pieces like this the numbers and lines are laser-cut. The black backing can change to another colour sprayed in our own spray room, and the size, the proportions, the position of the lines, a room name and the fixing are all yours to set. A whole hotel is a series: one prototype is made first, and the rest follow once you approve it.

Questions
Can a room name go on the plate as well as the number?
Yes. A name, a use such as Meeting room, or a second language can go on the plain area under the lower line, cut the same way as the number. You see the full layout on the 3D design before anything is made.
Can the face be a finish other than gold-tone?
Yes. Face and backing are chosen for each project: gold-tone over black as here, copper-tone, silver-tone or a painted colour from our own spray room. The prototype is made in the pairing you choose, so you approve it before the series.
