About this piece

On a dark, finely striped corridor wall in a hotel, this plate carries room 715 from top to bottom: 7, then 1, then 5. The plate is a tall, dark rectangle. Each numeral is silver-tone and sits on short pins, so it stands a little off the face and casts its own shadow.

A vertical layout fits the strip of wall between a door frame and the next door, or a narrow column, where a wide plate would not. The dark plate keeps a quiet line against a dark wall, while the raised numerals pick up the corridor light. Fixed at the same height beside every door, a run of tall plates gives a corridor a steady rhythm.

Every plate is drawn from your room list and shown to you in 3D on a private page, so the stack, the spacing and the pins are agreed before production. The plates are cut in our workshop and the numerals are set on pins. You can change the plate colour, the numeral finish, the typeface, the height, and whether the numbers stack or run across; a room name, a floor number or tactile dots can be added too. A hotel order starts with a single prototype plate, and the series follows once you have approved it.

How an order works

  1. Your briefSend the artwork, a drawing or a photo, the size and how many you need.
  2. Drawing and 3D reviewWe draw it to scale, and you check the design from each side on a private page.
  3. Quote and approvalThe cost and the scope are agreed before anything is made.
  4. Made in RigaWe make and assemble your piece in our Riga workshop. For a series, one prototype comes first.

Questions

What if some of our room numbers have four digits?

The plate simply grows taller. Because the digits stack, a longer number adds height rather than width, so every plate in a corridor keeps the same width and the run of plates stays even from door to door.

Can the numerals sit flat instead of on pins?

Yes. Numerals can be fixed flat to the face, set on pins as here so they cast a shadow, or cut into the plate itself. Each option catches the light differently, so we show it on the 3D design and on the prototype.
